Time-sensitive: 3 climate actions for Framingham

How you can act on climate in the coming weeks

Dear Energize Framingham subscribers:

Three upcoming events could impact climate and sustainability in Framingham. You can make a difference — here’s how:

1) Hear Framingham’s Mayoral and City Council candidates on climate

Saturday, 10/18, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Energize Framingham’s Candidates Climate Forum
Co-moderated by Miriam Naguib of the Framingham High School Environmental Club

2) Tell the City Council we want better new buildings

Monday, 10/20, 7 p.m.
City Council hearing on the Specialized Building Code

The Specialized Building Code would:

  • reduce energy costs for residents of new buildings

  • pre-wire new buildings for solar and electric vehicle charging

  • qualify Framingham for up to $1M in state grants

  • reduce climate pollution

  • More on the Specialized Code on our website

3) ELECTION DAY: VOTE ON THE CHARTER QUESTION!

Tuesday, 11/4

In addition to the Mayoral and City Councilor election, an amended City Charter is on the ballot. Among other changes, it would:

  • create a Chief Climate and Sustainability Officer in the Mayor’s office

  • entrust this officer to lead long-range climate planning, setting policy across city departments

  • add to the existing Sustainability Coordinator position (which is largely self-funded through grants brought in)

Yours in climate action,
The Energize Framingham Steering Committee
